The 7" Presort tape is designed for first class presort applications. Most presort first class imprints are 3" from lead edge to trailing edge of the print. Each side of the 7" tape is 3 1/2". The reason this tape allows for the additional 1/2" is that the imprint lead edge sometimes prints 3/8" to 1/2" from the lead edge of the tape in most units. A full 3 1/2" is the length required to avoid overprinting on a consistent basis.
